The Deb server's /var partition has gone "read only."
/var contains useful things, particularly mysql so those of you with scripts that rely on MySQL will probably notice, they are not working at the moment.
The server has been scheduled for immediate fsck. When we run fsck on a server, it has to be powered down. In other words, the server is going to be offline for a little while.
fsck will try to repair the damaged sectors on the disk. When the machine is back online we will run further tests to determine if this hard drive needs to be replaced or if it still has good life left on it.
Unfortunately there is no estimate on how long fsck will take. it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours depending on the damage.
Please do not open support tickets at the helpdesk regarding the Deb server. We are diligently working to resolve the matter. If you have questions that need to be asked, we please ask you to post them in this forum thread that you are reading now.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
