Default [How To] Configure FTP settings in Dreamweaver

    1. On the Tool Bar of Dreamweaver, click Site
    2. Select "Define Sites" and Click "New"
    3. Use the "Advanced" Tab

Under Local Info Use the following settings:

    Site Name: yourdomain.com
Local Folder: This is where you store your web site files on your local PC
    HTTP Address: http://yourdomain.com
Enable Cache: check the Dreamweaver documentation to see if you want to enabled this or not.

    Under Remote Info
    Access: FTP
    FTP Host: yourdomain.com
    Host Directory: public_html
    login: ftp username
    password: ftp password
    Save: Check the box
Use Passive FTP: checked or unchecked. If you have difficulty retaining your ftp connection, or the connection constantly times out, try toggling this mode to see what works best for you.

Use Firewall: If your Computer is behind a personal firewall, then simply set the configuration. If you do not know what this is, leave it blank.
Enable Checkin/Checkout: Leave this blank unless you understand the implecations of enabling this function.

Default Trouble switching site using Dreamweaver

I am a newbi with Glowhost.

I am using DW to switch and I've followed directions but an "FTP error" message comes up, asking me to check my connections.

What am I doing wrong? I feel like I'm missing a step. Should I reset my DNS settings first? Thanks.

DW has a log that should tell you the exact reason for the failure. usually its the wrong username and password. The username and password is the same as your cpanel username and password.

If you have verified you can login to cpanel, but ftp still does not work, then you may be connecting to your old host.

When you ping ftp.example.com what IP address comes up? It should be the same IP address found in your welcome letter. If it is different, you probably have not completely resolved the domain name yet.

You can either change ftp.example.com to the temporary IP while you wait for the domain to resolve, or simply wait for the domain to resolve.

You can try to flush your DNS resolver cache as well to see if you can get the new IP when you ping.

To flush your DNS resolver cache in windows go to:

Start > run dialog > type in "cmd" (no quotes) then the terminal appears. Type "ipconfig /flushdns" into the terminal. (no quotes)

It should tell you you have flushed your cache.

Then try to ping ftp.example.com and see if you get the correct IP.

If that does not help, you can submit a support ticket with your login details so we can check.
