I didn't even know livejournal was still active. I had this impression everyone had migrated to wordpress and (dare I say it) tumblr. What was the clincher, if I may ask, why you opted for going with livejournal?

Livejournal has still continued to thrive within it's small community. It doesn't gain the traffic it once did, but the users it managed to keep, it managed to keep well. A lot of their newer functions have targeted community building / interaction.
