I've actually spent a lot of time on StumbleUpon. It's quite the time vacuum, but then again, if you skip all the "flash games", you can actually spot some pretty neat sites catered to your interests.

Yup! HTML will get you around, but it won't get you very far. You can using built in blog tools by blogger / wordpress. They're a lot more versatile (and easy to manage) than HTML in a lot of cases.
It's hard to judge based on "Wow" factor, since that's pretty much subjective. Do you have any pegs to go on?
Harsh words, but a good point quite frankly. On topic though, we make sure to design all our websites to at least 1024 x 768 specifications. Unless clients want something "fancier", and are okay with...
