This is what frankie said on the phpmotion-V3 support forum:

"for those of you on servers that do not have php running in cgi mode.

open up the htaccess file and look for these lines:

    # uncomment this line to enable site wide gzip to increase load times
    # may cause 500 server errors on servers running php in cgi mode
    #---------------------------------------- GZIP BEGIN ------------------------------------#
    # php_value output_handler ob_gzhandler
    #---------------------------------------- GZIP END --------------------------------------#

    uncomment this line:
    php_value output_handler ob_gzhandler

then reupload this increases V3 load times by a huge factor.
if you get the dreaded 500 internal server error then you are kinda out of luck for now, or
at least untill we find a work around.

    have fun with V3 !!!
    cheers guys

i have notice some of you have tried to do a V2 to the V3 install,
if you have issues, do not report these as bugs, as the site will not be right if you did
    this manual upgrade.
    "

So, I ask: does glowhost's servers run our phpmotion sites in cgi mode? Thank you.

You are right, we run php in cgi mode, so these lines will cause 500 server error on your site.

Am I reading frankie's message wrong? He said, for those of you on servers that do not have php running in cgi mode... So, from what he said, I would think that if your servers have php running in cgi, like you say, then it should be fine - isn't it? Thank you.

Well, it is not quite clear for me. Our servers have php running in cgi, thus uncommenting that line will cause problems. If you are talking about the possibility of running this script on our servers, I'm almost sure that the script will work properly. The best thing to check it is to try.
We haven't tested it yet. I think, it will test it after the week-end.

Yes, I am talking about the possibility of running this script on your servers, and I will be happy to know that you can host it without issues - looking forward for the test results! Just for more clarification, here is the link from frankie's comment
    Thank you.

Great! Make sure you guys download the upgraded May 3rd version, which has fixed recent issues signaled on the forum by some users. Also, they will soon release the upgrade V2 to V3 script, since the current V3 works for new installations only. I'll let you know when that happens.
