Default Help Me Sell Glowhost Dedicated Solution

Hi Matt and the Glowhost Team,

We are working with a client and want to sell them your services for their dedicated production hosting needs. We will need your Dedicated
    Intel Package IV
s to meet the needs of our site that we have built.

The client has found this package KS 1 Dedicated server - OVH

Needless to say there is a super difference in price for what appears to be the same specs. The only add on that I see that would have to be done at OVH is I would have to add C-Panel on bringing their monthly total to abut $99 per month.

Can you tell me what is driving the difference in price?

Additionally - I need for magic quotes to be turned off on our current server (Dev) but after much discussion and since our Dev Server is shared, you made this post http://forums.glowhost.com/outages-s...soon-3998.html. I need to know when this will be in affect as it is messing us up....

    Please let me know ASAP.

    Thanks,
    Rick Pugh
    Thanks,

    Rick

KS 1 from OVH with CPanel is only $59/month

    Edit:
Not trying to sell anyone on this, just correcting the original post.

There are a lot of differences in the two companies, and we actually have some newer more powerful servers that I will have one of the guys show you some example configurations here shortly. I've never used their support, so I am not sure I can comment on it, but at those prices it seems like they may be unmanaged machines. e.g. only hardware support and limited software support. They may not help you with things like bad drivers for example, or control panel management.

I will have to check on it but the Managed support and support response resolution time that we offer at GH is typically one of the biggest differentiators.

We've been re-developing our dedicated order form and are just waiting for it to be done before advertising the new machines.

In the mean time, can you elaborate on your magic quotes problem? We can possibly disable them now depending on the server you are referring to. I noticed you mentioned "Dev" but I am not sure which one that might be.

    Regarding magic quotes:

I think Vern was one of the servers which this may have already been done on. Can you open a ticket and show us the URL and steps to reproduce the problem?

So do we still have problems on Vern? I guess I am confused by Rick's statement:

We were the ones who brought up magic quotes via a ticket which spawned that forum post.
Until now we had not checked if the issue was resolved.

Aha! Good to know we are all on the same page then.

Unfortunately there are a lot of "breaking changes" in PHP 5.3 and 5.4 and just killing off certain functions or doing major version changes like 5.2 to 5.3 or 5.3 to 5.4 as soon as they are released is not really possible on shared servers. Too many people end up with broken sites.

We usually roll these out slowly over time, and end up with a handful of accounts that cannot upgrade at all due to lack of programming resources on their side, and eventually they get transferred to very old servers. Some sites still require PHP4.

Vern are a couple others are tests to see what kind of reaction we get before making sweeping changes like the one you guys requested. It's one of the drawbacks to shared hosting I guess.

There are some newer tools available which we are testing which plugin to cPanel servers to allow users to select their own PHP versions and subversions but we are weighing the good with the bad there.

On one hand, users are not forced to migrate to old servers when they cannot upgrade, at the same time bleeding edge users can have the latest and greatest stuff. But there are drawbacks to both of those benefits.

Bleeding edge might have undiscovered bugs which crash the server, and allowing users to run outdated scripts is also not ideal. Then when servers crash or sites get hacked because of those reasons, we get the blame.

It's not real easy to accommodate all the different needs that every shared account has at the same time trying to keep a stable environment.

Anyways, now that the magic quotes issue is addressed, we can continue on about the dedicated server options. I will go check what OVH is doing and one of the guys should have some example configurations here for you guys shortly.

That doesn't sound like a good idea... so many people with so much inexperience with PHP, I could see a lot going wrong.

OVH has been an amazing dedicated server host. I have only needed support twice(both user errors) and both times they were resolved in a few minutes. Always have good internet speeds, they setup the server fast. For a price difference of hundreds, I just don't see why we shouldn't use OVH.

By the way, thanks for all the communication, Matt.
