If you have commandline access to your server, (which I belive you do) as the root user you can issue this command:
/scripts/installzendopt
Press enter all the way through the wizard including the part where it asks if you want to restart Apache and answer yes.
If you are not comfortable with the commandline interface you can open a ticket and we will install / update Zend optimizer for you.
leave it with me i will have a play :)
That was fun! All installed. Seems to have quite a marked difference on load times for php pages, or is this just me?
Supposed to make it faster. Hopefully that is the difference you are talking about :)
Are there any drawbacks to having it installed? Seems to make an incredible difference in loading times, or maybe im just on fast electric tonight?!
There are no drawbacks. It is a good thing to have. :)
How can you tell whether or not it is already installed?
Look at phpinfo and search for "zend optimizer"
Should also be in the last few lines of the main php.iniQuote:
This program makes use of the Zend Scripting Language Engine:
Zend Engine v1.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2004 Zend Technologies with Zend Extension Manager v1.2.0, Copyright (c) 2003-2006, by Zend Technologies with Zend Optimizer v3.2.2, Copyright (c) 1998-2006, by Zend Technologies
nope. Did that before I asked.
Looks like checking for this file will do
usr/local/Zend/etc/php.ini
