You have worse things to think about next! PHP4 is dead as of today and if that cart is that old I am wondering if it works with PHP5 at all. Might be time for a full upgrade by now instead of patches.

Indeed, the light at the end of the tunnel was a train! I was hoping to not have to upgrade Zen Cart because of all the changes I had made to it but now I am restarting from scratch and trying to feed the old database to the new program. I am at least updated but what a mess.
