Set Up A Record
Hi
I have to set up an A record for an account with an mx record. I've done the mx record but didn't know I had to do the other as well!!! :crud:
How do I go about it?
the account is Whistlers7.com.au
I am also about to redirect their whistlers7.com to point towards the .com.au so will need to do it for that also
Thanks

cPanel creates a DNS zone for your domains once they are created from cPanel or WHM. You can modify the generated DNS zones from WHM.
I've corrected some syntax errors for Whistlers7.com.au.
If you need to forward email of a domain outside of the server you just need to modify the MX record and replace it with the remote email server hostname. Please note that IP addresses are not allowed for MX records.
You don't need to do A entries for mail subdomains unless your remote mail server has a web interface and you are going to access it using mail.domain.com.

Thanks Alex and yes we do need to access it using mail.whistlers7.com.au. we have gone into Edit DNS Zone and I think I've done it correctly. Can you check for me?

Yes, it looks ok.
mail.whistlers7.com.au is resolving to a Windows server with *.*.*.111 IP.

I have a question about a couple of things also...
I have a client which is being hosted on a cms hosting company's servers. My client also has a Virtual Office Exchange his company uses.
He would like to move his hosting to my reseller account but would like to keep his email and Virtual Office EXchange. When I contacted his current host, this was their response:
Once the cancellation process starts, we will push his domain to an account at poweryourname.com. We will not host a domain that is not pointing at our servers.
To make sure that his Virtual Office Exchange settings are not changed, you would need to keep the MX records the same. The A records can be changed to point at any address that you wish.
Questions - I am not familiar with the Virtual Office Exchange whatsoever, so:
1) Does he currently download his email like a normal desktop program works?
2) Would he lose all the contacts and current emails from his current server?
3) Is there anything I need to know before cancelling his hosting? (Even basic stuff please)
4) Are the mx records part of the domain registrar functions (like DNS) and is the A name the same as a DNS record?
5) Can you help me perform the transition?
Thanks in advance!

Lynne, You just need to know MX record of Virtual Office EXchange. Once you set your nameservers for his domain to point it to our server, you will be able to manage his DNS zones via WHM DNS Editor and you can set his MX record to point to Virtual Office EXchange. This way his site will be loading from our server and mail will be functioning on Virtual Office EXchange.
