    Smile My new web site!

    Hi everyone,

    After several misadventures and false starts, my web site is now online!

    Before anyone comments, I have to say that this is the first time I've ever designed anything in HTML, so . . . I can appreciate constructive criticism, but please take into account my extreme amateur status! (I know there are a lot of pages missing, for instance, but I promise I will get to them soon.)

    Here goes: http://www.curiousvolumes.com

    So, what do you think?

    Best,

    vb

    Default Congratulations!!!!!!

    Woo Hoo! Good job!

    Your code looks clean and I can tell you are reading the tutorials!

    A small suggestion is to remember to use alt tags in your image source tags as the search engines can't read what your images say.

    HTML Code:
    <img src="CVPpagebanner2.jpg" width="950" height="200" />
    Should look like:
    HTML Code:
    <img src="CVPpagebanner2.jpg" width="950" height="200" alt="CV Publishers" />
    Keep up the good work!!!
    Thank you,

    Congrats, looks much better

    I'd say ditch the "splash page" ... the black homepage that you have there. It seems to be a common idea among newcomers that there needs to be a splash page but all they do is hinder site navigation and add an extra step / clicks that your user has to endure trying to get to the content they want to see.

    Look at the big guys, none of them have a splash page that I am aware of.

    I also think things like "coming soon" are detrimental to a site, it makes visitors think no one is home. Might as well develop the full blown site as you go, so that if someone stumbles upon it, they at least can contact you, which might give you the incentive to hurry up and build it faster.

    Its all about getting people to your main content, not putting up walls to it, no matter how done the site is. That's my opinion on it anyways.

    Site looks good though, keep it up.

    Thanks for the input!

    I'm adding the alt text; I'm sure that's not the only thing I forgot to do!

    It hadn't occurred to me that "coming soon" could look like there's "no one home." I'll definitely take that into account.

    Even though it's not perfect, I feel like I've come a long way with it - and there's no way I could have done it without all the help I've received from the GlowHost Community. You guys are the best!
